Kevin Stein
Strategic Communications and Branding Digital Ethnography and Cross-Platform Branding
Kevin Stein is a media and marketing futurist and digital ethnographer with a strong track record of creative communications strategy and cross platform branding. He has a history of successful business and content development in both traditional and digital media. His unique background includes network, cable, and syndicated television and film, both as a producer for Paramount, Columbia Pictures, and VH1, as well as senior management experience at HBO, CBS, and King World. Kevin’s digital marketing experience includes alternative distribution channels, social media, mobile, and music branding strategy for consumer and media brands as well as in retail entertainment.
In addition, Kevin’s work in media, technology, and digital marketing includes consulting for AOL, Sony, SEGA, Time, Disney, and Microsoft and has given him an expertise for online, mobile, game, and youth cultures. He co-authored a classic history of rock and roll for Rolling Stone, and his numerous productions include work for MTV, The Who, Jimi Hendrix, PBS, NBC Sports, CBS News, PRI, Frank Zappa, and Bob Dylan.
Kevin studied English Literature and Cultural Anthropology at Boston University, which led to field work in Brazil for the World Health Organization. He followed with graduate work in Clinical Psychology at Swarthmore College and Harvard University. His teaching experience includes Psychology of the Human Life Cycle at Harvard Alumni College, graduate seminars on Shamanism and Art History at Cal Arts, and History of Media at California State University, Long Beach.
His non-profit accomplishments include production of two films, which helped launch NASA’s Challenger Center For Space Science Education, and co-founding the Jimi Hendrix Foundation, which he ran from 1994-96. Most recently, he contributed to founding of the Energy Access Foundation as well as brand identity support for Solgenix, the Evergreen Earth family of companies based in San Diego as well as strategy for Sustainable Solutions/Greenuendo, a Los Angeles-based organization currently developing an environmental education program with the U.S. Forest Service.
